I offer an initial consultation that lasts around 1.5 hours. This allows you to find out more about the solution focused hypnotherapy approach and to decide if I am the right hypnotherapist for you to work with. The initial consultation identifies what you would like help with and the changes that you would like to make – aiming to provide insight into why we sometimes (or perhaps often) feel or behave the way that we do and help to put you back in control. A free relaxation cd/ mp3 download is provided as part of the session.
Overall the initial consultation lays the first building blocks for subsequent hypnotherapy sessions; it is also of great value as a stand alone session.
The first part of each session is spent talking and helping you to identify the next small step forward. Following this, you move onto the couch and I guide you into a state of relaxation (hypnosis). Only a very light trance is needed, which is achievable by almost everyone. Each session lasts around 60 minutes.
What about trance?
Most people enter a trance-like state many times a day, for example when focused on driving, reading a book or watching television – focusing on anything to the extent that distractions (like someone talking) are ignored, even though we might know they are there. People tend to be much better at going into a trance than they expect and are often surprised at how ‘normal’ it feels. You do not lose consciousness and you remain in control at all times – only those things that are relevant and meaningful to you are accepted by your sub-conscious mind.
